Naomi Jackson -Under 12's girls team gets to regional county cup finals
(taken from LTA web-site).
Faced with an extremely hot weekend, Sussex girls under 12's had a very successful weekends tennis, narrowly missing a trip to Bolton for the National county cup finals.
The team consisted of Holly Thompson, Louisiana Vine, Naomi Jackson, and Eleanor Chapman, Anna Kilsby was our reserve. In the Round Robin stage on Saturday, Holly, Louisiana, and Naomi all won their singles conceding only 2 games between them. The doubles was also won by Naomi and Eleanor teaming up, 1-4,5-4,and clinching the tie break 10-6. So, that was Berkshire taken care of, next for Kent. Holly had a tough opponent in Mia Smith, Mia had spent months at Nick Bolletieri's and was in fine form, Holly put up a good fight but Mia won, Louisiana had a great tie break win at No.2 and Naomi made a convincing win to take the team up to a 2-1 lead. The doubles was tough, Louisiana and Holly tried everything against Mia and Cathrine Hogh, but they lost 4-2,4-2. So to the shoot out where Sussex lost 10-4
All this left Sussex 2nd out of three teams and so on to the Sunday's semis. Hants & I of W were our opponents, Holly started by winning at excellent match against Kirsty McCulloch 4-0,4-1, Louisiana fought a hard match to win in the tie break 10-7 against Ellie Millard, and Naomi Jackson played fantastic tennis to continue winning for Sussex against Louise Carter. The team were then in the finals on singles wins but Holly and Louisiana still won the doubles, which was hard to play as it was so hot by this time.
The final, versus Kent, Holly and Louisiana played first and were beaten indoors by the Kent girls, Naomi won again to make the score 2-1 going into the doubles. I brought Eleanor on to play the doubles. Eleanor and Holly played great doubles in the second set and nearly won on the tie break! losing in the end 4-0,5-4. Wow what a weekend, and what experience for these girls who will, i am sure go to Bolton and win win win!! I must say all the girls competed fantastically, but i must say Naomi Jacksons 100% win record was very impressive. Well played everyone.

Sussex Schools Netball Championships
On Thursday 6th May the Yr 10 Ratton netball team consisting of Rachael Dudson, Katy Lambert, Catherine Lawrence., Lexi Filsell, Sian Heather, Lauren Wilder and Chloe King travelled to the K2 Centre in Crawley to represent the East of the County at the Sussex County Partnership Tournament. They played the winning teams from the other areas of the county.
They qualified for the semi final where they played Angmering School in a nail biting game which Ratton won 8 goals to 7!!
They then met Imberhorne School in the final and played well but lost 16-4.
This was a fantastic achievement especially as the girls are only Yr 10 and the tournament was for Yr11's so hopefully next year will see them progress further.
A great result for a local school.

U13 Girl's Football Final Information
Over the past few years Ratton girls football teams have steadily grown from strength to strength. They can boast a very impressive record of achievements starting in 2007 when they first formed a girls football team and then went on to win their U.14 local league tournament. The following year the U.16 team won the area 6-a-side tournament and came second in the local league. In 2009 the year7 team won the Sussex 6-a-side indoor tournament and was selected to play at the Beckham academy which was a great honour and an experience I am sure all the girls will not forget.
However, this year overshadows all previous successes and marks an historical landmark for girl’s football at Ratton. The U.13 team have battled hard all season to remain unbeaten in the 11-a-side County Cup and are now through to play in the County Cup Final. Where many schools might struggle to find a full team, this year Ratton has netted a very talented squad of over 16 players in year8 alone.
The first Cup match of the season was played against St Richards (Bexhill) which turned out to be one of the closest matches of the competition. Both teams were similarly matched, but it was the strength in defence, coordinated by Ellie May Swain and her extra powerful throw-ins which enabled the team to maintain their lead. Bobby knight managed to pull off two extra-ordinary distance strikes on goal which converted a 4-3 victory. They went on to play Bexhill High and quickly dominated the game with 3 early goals by Bobbie Knight and Veronika Gibbins. Leah Holden also played her socks off supporting the attack and making herself available for the follow-up on the post and adding to the final 8-1 score line. The third match required a distant drive to Littlehampton, which challenged the team to keep focussed and awake en-route! However they settled in quickly and Leah Holden, supported by Gemma Courtney Davis played a blinder of a match, setting up many of the goals which ended in a 6-1win.
However, it was the last game against Warden Park which required us to draw together all our skills, speed, fitness and team work, as it proved to be a very hard and close match. Although Ratton managed to set an early 4-1 lead within the first 20minutes, Warden Park fought back, closing the gap to 4-3 and then overtook to make it 5-4. Kira Marsh in mid-field ably supported by Ellie Fryer kept blocking their attack and chipped through a number of lovely balls for the Ratton attackers to run on to. Chloe Funnel (Goal Keeper) had her skills tested as she was forced to make a number of early interceptions and two big dives chipped the balls over the bar. Zoe Heather demonstrated outstanding dribbling skills as she ducked and weaved through the defenders and finally found the strength to knock on the winning touch. However, it was Bobbies’ final corner which finally turned the game. As she confidently struck the ball hard and high by her left foot and applied the Beckham spin, the ball curved straight into goal which gave Ratton the goal advantage in the final minutes of the game. From there on all players dug deep into their energy reserves and linked with some brilliant support play, they kept moving the ball and managed to keep most of the pocession until the final whistle resounded an 8-7 victory.
I have not mentioned all players who have played in the games throughout the season, but it is important to recognise that all players have contributed to the success of the team. An additional mention should therefore go to Nina Liebenberg who has been our very able reserve goalie and also played on pitch a number of times, Summer Donnachie, Hannah king, Paris Tucknott, Sky Wilson, Ellie-may Francis and Olivia McCreary all who have played with and supported the team throughout the season.
The Ratton girls have deserved this success with their determination and support of each other. It has also been very pleasing to have a number of parents who have supported every match and I am sure offered the extra encouragement needed to sustain their focus throughout the matches.
Ratton now go on to play Hazelwick in the final on Tuesday 23rd March at Lancing College.
Thursday 4th March
Yr9 Boy's Football Team Reach Final
Congratulations to the Year 9 football team who beat Wiliiam Parker Sports College to reach the final of the District Cup. The final score of 3-2 didn't really do the boy's justice as they dominated from the start. William Parker had taken the lead from the spot after Billy Pout had used his hands in the areas and was very lucky not to see red. The boys then equalised with a clever finish from Ben Farrant. We then took the lead from the penalty spot after Jack Buggins was fouled when through on goal. Billy Pout then converted the spot kick after help from the post. William Parker then got a second and with ten minutes to go extra time was looking likely until Billy Taylor popped up with the goal of the game and sent Ratton through to the final.Yr7 Boy's Rugby
The Year 7 boy's were also in action at Eastbourne Rugby Club and finished a very respectable 2nd out of 12 schools. Oliver Henley and Kevane Byroo were outstanding. Well done lads!Wednesday 3rd March

Year 7 hang onto deserved football victory
At half-time when Year 7 boys are playing Seaford Sports College and your 5 - 1 in the lead you would think the game was done and dusted. That was not what Seaford thought, they game out after the break a different team. Ratton's legs were tired and the final score og 6 - 5 to Ratton shows how close it got. Man of the match was James Stone who scored 4 goals.
