Mathematics
KEY STAGE 4
In KS4 we follow the EDEXCEL scheme of work for GCSE. Pupils are required to take two written papers, one calculator and one non-calculator.
Teachers use a variety of texts at KS4 depending on topics and ability of the class.
In years 10 and 11 pupils are set according to SATS and assessment data and the BAND the pupils are in.
Maths is split into 2 levels of ability and the work reflects the Edexcel textbook provided. Homework is one hour per week and is provided from the homework textbook issued at the beginning of year 10 and lasts for two years.
The four main areas are: using and applying Mathematics. Number e.g. percentages, standard form, indices. Algebra solving equations, drawing graphs, distance / time.
Area and shape. Areas of polygons, volume of prisms, area of circle, Pythagorean and trigonometry.
Handling data. Mode, medan mean bar charts, pie charts, cumulative frequency, histograms, frequency polygrams and probability.

Equipment. Books needed -
EDEXCEL GCSE text book and homework book appropriate to level of entry.
Scientific calculators at a cost of £4 are available from Mrs Beck, in the Learning Resource Centre. Revision Guides are available from Mrs. Peters, Room 201 at a cost of £2.00.
Particular homework requirements e.g. types of homework, length of homework
From the homework book approximately one hour per week.
There are two tiers of entry each with two papers, non calculator and calculator. Foundation tier grades G to C. Higher tier grades D to A*.
